Since 1947 the University of Mississippi (affectionately known as Ole Miss) has been committed to insurance education. The Ole Miss RMI program is consistently ranked among the largest in the U.S. and its graduates are an in high demand by employers across the industry and throughout the country. The program’s award-winning faculty is committed to providing students with a relevant, rigorous education and connecting them with employers and future colleagues. The curriculum focuses on commercial risk management and insurance and several courses are approved for credit towards professional designations such as the CPCU, CIC, and CRM. Industry experts are often invited to serve as guest speakers and also as judges of student presentations in the capstone corporate risk management class. Students are provided with career development opportunities through two annual RMI career fairs, trips to local and national conferences, visits with regional industry practitioners, and activities of the Mu Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma. Students are able to earn course credit for completing an internship and most students work as interns for at least one summer before graduating. The program is supported by the Ole Miss Insurance Advisory Board that focuses on fundraising, strategic planning, and assisting with student placement and career development. The advisory board plays a critical role in organizing an annual insurance symposium that connects over 300 regional industry professionals and students with industry thought leaders. Recent symposium speakers include CEOs of national and international carriers, brokers, claims organizations, and industry associations.
