RGA Leaders of Tomorrow Spotlight: Haotian Wu, Senior Manager, AVIVA Asia

What did being named an RGA Leader of Tomorrow mean to you?
It was a tremendous honor to have been a part of the Leader of Tomorrow program.  I am grateful for the recommendation from my mentor at work, as well as the generous recognition from the IIS and RGA.

LoT offered me an opportunity to get to know my peers on the program that are some of the most talented and diligent.  It also allowed me the opportunity to learn from a few of the most experienced and accomplished leaders in our industry, who were incredibly encouraging and willing to share.

What’s the most important thing you learned from your LOT mentor?
It was a reunion in my case.  I had met my mentor, Franz Josef Hahn of Peak Re, once 12 years ago when I interned with a reinsurer in Beijing.

Franz guided me through the writing of my LoT program paper.  Aside from advice on how to best frame my thesis and structure the arguments, Franz pointed me to the Kyosais in Japan the first time I mentioned my idea of the mutual platforms in China, for their resemblance.  Not only did Franz’s suggestion greatly help my research, it also reflected the breadth and depth of a leader’s experiences, which I would aspire to emulate.
