Greig Woodring to be Inducted into the Insurance Hall of Fame

New York, August 16, 2021

The International Insurance Society (IIS) announced today that A. Greig Woodring, retired president and CEO of Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated (RGA), will be inducted to the Insurance Hall of Fame in recognition of his lifetime contributions to the insurance industry.

The Insurance Hall of Fame recognizes insurance leaders who have made broad and lasting contributions to the insurance industry and who are extolled by their peers as innovators and visionaries. Laureates are nominated by IIS members and selected by the IIS Honors Committee, a body of senior insurance executives and academics.

“Induction into the Insurance Hall of Fame is the highest accolade in our industry and serves as a testament to Greig’s outstanding career and achievements,” says James Vickers, Chairman of the IIS Honors Committee. “The creation, development and expansion of RGA during Greig’s tenure as president and CEO illustrates his entrepreneurial vision and extraordinary business acumen, driving success for RGA while also strengthening and expanding the offerings and capabilities of the life and health insurance markets globally.”

“Greig’s extraordinary success positioned him as an exemplary role model within the company and across the industry,” adds Josh Landau, President of IIS. “His commitment to technological innovations and medical, mortality and morbidity research has had a tremendous impact and continues to enhance our industry’s ability to serve customers and improve public health, which exemplifies the role and purpose of the insurance industry.”

Woodring began his career as an actuary at General American Life in 1979 and in 1986 was named head of General American Reinsurance (GA Re), RGA’s predecessor company, at the age of 34. From there, Woodring would go on to build GA Re into the firm known today as RGA: an NYSE-listed FORTUNE 500 company with approximately $3.5 trillion of life reinsurance in force and assets of $89 billion. RGA supports client needs around the world with individual life reinsurance, individual living benefits reinsurance, group reinsurance, health reinsurance, financial solutions, facultative underwriting, and product development.

“RGA would not be the company it is today without Greig’s vision,” says RGA CEO, Anna Manning. “During his 25-year tenure as CEO, Greig guided RGA’s successful expansion in the U.S. and worldwide, fostering a culture that embodies client-centricity, innovation, collaboration, and integrity.”

Woodring continues to act as an insurance industry ambassador and innovator in retirement. He currently serves on the Board of Governors of The Longer Life Foundation, a research collaboration that he conceived which focuses on research into the factors that predict mortality and morbidity and influence improvements in longevity, health, and wellness; he is founder and executive co-chairman of Genomic Life, which offers genetic- and genomic-based products and services as an affordable employee benefit; and he serves as a mentor for the RGA Leaders of Tomorrow, an IIS leadership development program.

In conjunction with his induction into the Insurance Hall of Fame, Greig Woodring will participate in the 2021 IIS Global Insurance Forum as a featured speaker alongside a roster of 40+ industry CEOs and thought leaders. The Global Insurance Forum will focus on Powering Recovery.
