Jerry Rosenbloom Named the 2020 Founder's Award Recipient

New York, New York – February 3, 2020

The International Insurance Society (IIS) has announced Dr. Jerry Rosenbloom as the 2020 recipient of the prestigious John S. Bickley Founder’s Award.  Dr. Rosenbloom is the Frederick H. Ecker Emeritus Professor of Insurance and Risk Management and Academic Director of the Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) Program, at the Wharton School of the University Of Pennsylvania. He is also a Senior Fellow in the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics and a Senior Fellow in the Financial Institutions Center at the Wharton School. Dr. Rosenbloom has previously served as Chairman of the Insurance and Risk Management Department at Wharton, Executive Director of the S.S. Huebner Foundation for Insurance Education and Executive Director of the Pension Research Council at the Wharton School.

The John S. Bickley Founder’s Award Gold Medal for Excellence recipient is elected by the IIS Honors Committee, represented by senior insurance executives and leading academicians.  The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant, lasting contribution to insurance thought, product, practice or education.  Dr. Rosenbloom will receive this honor at the June 10th Gala Awards dinner taking place during the IIS Global Insurance Forum at the Conrad Downtown NYC, June 8th – 10th.

“Jerry’s contribution to the insurance industry is prolific across the property casualty and life/health sector” says James Vickers, Chairman of the Honors Committee “and he is widely regarded for his wide ranging expertise as a professor and researcher, and board member.  He continues to contribute to our industry and society broadly through his current efforts to improve the US healthcare system.”  IIS President & CEO, Mike Morrissey adds, “Jerry has left an indelible mark on the field of employee benefits where he has been credited as the ‘pied piper’ of the CEBS program which he helped form.  His work has had a profound impact on the employee benefits sector and we’re proud to honor him with the Founders Award.”   

Dr. Rosenbloom completed his undergraduate education and a year of graduate work at Temple University and received his MA and PhD degrees in applied Economics with a concentration in Insurance from the University of Pennsylvania, studying under a Huebner Foundation Fellowship. He holds the professional designations of Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).
