RGA Leaders of Tomorrow Spotlight: Lawrence Cheng, Managing Director, Peak RE
What is the most important thing you learned from your LOT mentor?
The mentorship program was great. It was well organized and has been hugely beneficial. There is one thing that cannot be replaced by google and any text book or any machine learning is experience. I can go into a key burning strategic corporate discussion with my mentor and bring valuable feedback back to my company. Furthermore, it is also the relationship and network that I have developed which will be very helpful in the future.
How can the industry and/or companies better foster the career development of young professionals?
First of all, our industry should be one of the most appealing industries to attract talent. Our goals are a noble one. We help our communities and societies and provide protection for the middle class societies as much as the cooperatives. Our challenges are interesting. Quite often our day- to- day duties are tied with quarterly financial results that may not always fit well with the overall objective of the insurance sector so more resources should be spent on talent development to help growing our industry.
